School Zone Awareness, School Zone Speed Enforcement and Traffic Improvements, Clovis

Clovis Municipal schools are back in session beginning Monday, August 19, 2013. In the morning hours prior to school and in the afternoon following school letting out, Clovis Police Department officers will conduct speed enforcement and traffic safety patrols in designated school zones. School zones are clearly marked with a maximum speed of 15 Miles Per Hour. Area residents are asked to please pay attention to your speed and watch out for the children and crossing guards as well as school buses loading and offloading children at schools and in area neighborhoods.

With the opening of W.D. Gattis Middle School on North Thornton, the Clovis Police Department and New Mexico State police will be monitoring the intersections of North Thornton Street at Llano Estacado Boulevard and Prince Street and Wilhite Road to ensure the safety of any pedestrians in the area and traffic flow.

Due to the construction and limited roadway access to Mesa Elementary, City of Clovis Police Officers will be monitoring these areas to promote the safety of students, faculty and parents.

Llano Estacado Boulevard west of Prince Street is maintained by the State of New Mexico and the City of Clovis has been working with the state on the design of traffic lights at the intersection of Llano Estacado and North Thornton which will be constructed in the late spring/early summer of 2014.
