C.A.T.S. Employee Garry Johnson Receives Recognition Award

Clovis, NM – City Manager Justin Howalt recently awarded Garry Johnson, of the Clovis Area Transit System (C.A.T.S.), with the City Manager’s Recognition Award. The award is presented to City of Clovis employees for going above and beyond in the line of duty.

In late February, Garry took a call from a local family with a newborn baby who had just returned from the hospital and needed to schedule a C.A.T.S. bus ride to pick up baby formula. C.A.T.S. was not able to schedule them for a ride that day. Garry did not want the family to end up in an emergency situation, so he immediately started contacting local community agencies to assist. “We all sprang into action,” said Dianna Sprague, Executive Director of the Food Back of Eastern New Mexico.

The Pregnancy Resource Center put together a generous package of essential items for the baby and Garry delivered it to the family. He also worked with the food bank to coordinate an emergency food delivery. “I wanted you to know about [Garry’s] extraordinary act of kindness,” said Ms. Sprague.

Garry Johnson has been an employee of the City of Clovis for 13 years. “We have exceptional employees who continually demonstrate their good character and concern for the health and well-being of our community,” said City Manager Justin Howalt. “I am honored to have Garry as part of our City of Clovis team and proud to present him with a City Manager’s Recognition Award for going above and beyond the call of duty in helping a local family.”
