CITY OF CLOVIS NAMED A 2019 ‘GREAT AMERICAN DEFENSE COMMUNITY’

Other recipients in the 2019 class includes Bay County, Fla., (Tyndall Air Force Base); Greater Columbia Region, S.C., (Fort Jackson), Middle Georgia region (Robins AFB and North Country-Ford Drum region of New York.

The Association of Defense Communities is recognizing the City of Clovis as one of five communities across the country to the 2019 class of Great American Defense Communities. Defense communities, which are home to active military installations, were eligible to apply for the 2019 class of Great American Defense Communities, with supporting nominations from members of Congress that represents the community.

“Defined by a mission of force and family, readiness and resilience, America’s defense communities are the foundation of our military’s strength,” Association of Defense Communities President Bill Parry said. “The communities we recognize through the Great American Defense Communities program represent the best examples of what communities can do to create great places for our military families to live and work. We congratulate these five communities and look forward to sharing your stories with the nation.”

“It’s an incredible honor for the Clovis community to be recognized as a Great American Defense Community,” advised Mayor David Lansford, Wednesday. “Military communities around the country are privileged to share our lives with the men and women who uphold American values and are willing to place other lives and freedoms above their own.” Clovis is being recognized for various military related programs provided and supported by individuals and organizations in the community, including Cannon Appreciation Day, the Nursing program at Clovis Community College, Angel Arms, Cannon Newcomer’s Tour, and other Veterans’ Support programs.
