The City of
Clovis has obtained the Federal and State funding to build a
roundabout at the intersection of Norris St. and Llano Estacado
Blvd. to relieve the traffic problems there. The
construction contract was awarded to a local company, K Barnett
and Sons, Inc. The construction is currently underway.
The roundabout is a circular intersection with yield control of
all entering traffic, channelized approaches, counter-clockwise
circulation, and appropriate geometric curvature to ensure a low
speed movement within the circle. The speed limit will be
posted at 15 mph according to the design.
Obvious benefits of a roundabout over a signalized intersection
are lower construction cost and virtually no cost to operate; less
conflicting points; less wait time and minimum maintenance
required. Although the roundabout is new to Clovis, it
already exists in New Mexico and throughout other states. We
hope that Clovis residents will help the City to complete this
project to save tax payers money in the long run.
