The Public Works Dept. has six Divisions. They are:
Street Maintenance Division - maintains all city's street and
alley surfaces (filling potholes, chip seal and slurry seal),
drainage channels and retention ponds, and right of way cleaning. They
also perform small scale paving projects on city properties.
Fleet Maintenance Division - maintains all of the city's vehicles,
and heavy and light equipment. Some examples of these vehicles are:
Police Cars
Fire Engines
Buses
Pickups
Elevated Scrapers
Bulldozers
Compactors
Traffic System Maintenance - takes care of all of the city's traffic
lights, control systems, striping and markings.
Wastewater Collection and Treatment - maintains all the city
sewer lines from alleys all the way to the treatment plant. There are
about 160 miles of city sewer lines. The treatment plant treats 3 million
gallons of wastewater per day and the treated wastewater meets all the
EPA and State standards.
Sanitation Division - collects all the solid waste deposited
into the dumpsters and poly-carts. These total over 5000 pieces at least
twice a week.
Landfill Division - handles and buries all of the solid waste
from the Eastern New Mexico region.
Landfill Hours of Operation:
Monday - Saturday 7:00 am - 4:45 pm
Sunday 12:00 pm - 4:45 pm
