13.14.090 Grease interceptor/trap standards.

A. Minimum Requirements. The minimum requirements for interceptor construction, materials and other features shall be those required by the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), latest edition and any modifications, revisions or amendments made by the city. A minimum size of grease interceptor of seven hundred gallons with at least two compartments (effective
liquid volume of five hundred gallons in the first compartment and two hundred gallons in the second compartment) is recommended by the city. If the wastewater discharge flow rate of a business is such that a larger system is recommended based on UPC (Uniform Plumbing Code) criteria, then the larger sized system should be installed.
B. Special Requirements. The size and type of grease interceptor shall be subject to the approval of the city’s building inspection department. The grease interceptor shall be installed in a line separate from other sanitary plumbing facilities. In general, all grease interceptors shall be designed for exterior installation, of capacity sufficient to service those grease generating fixtures connected thereto. Wastes other than those requiring separation shall not be discharged into the grease interceptor. Grease traps shall be designed, located and constructed in a manner that will permit easy access and maintained by the operator and inspected by the city. (Ord. 1485-95 § 2(part), 1995).
