12.30.030 Duties and responsibilities.

A. To provide guidance to the city on tree species selection and management of woody plants in public areas of the city. Tree keepers shall maintain an extensive list of recommended trees for planting in public areas, and on private property. The purpose of this listing will be to maintain diversity in the total tree population. The list shall be available to residents of the city upon request to aid in the selection of trees for public and private properties.
B. To review and recommend policies on tree planting, maintenance and removal.
C. To develop or acquire educational information and programs for city residents on tree species selection, planting, maintenance and removal.
D. To identify issues concerning trees important to city residents.
E. To consider, investigate, report and make recommendations to the parks superintendent or his designee on any special matter or question relating to trees.
F. To make recommendations for the adoption and amendment of rules, regulations and ordinances which it shall deem in the public interest and likely to enhance and beautify the community forest.
G. To formulate a municipal tree plan which shall specify the species of trees to be planted on public places of the municipality. The municipal tree plan shall consider all existing and future utility and environmental factors when recommending specific species for public places. From and after the effective date of the tree plan or any amendment thereof, all planting shall conform thereto unless subsequently amended. The tree plan shall be approved by the city commission before implementation. (Ord. 1595-99 § 2(part), 1999).
