If the person charged with the violation does not appear at the bureau within the time specified by court rule, the bureau shall send him a notice directing him to respond to the citation within ten days of the date of the notice, and if such person fails to respond, the bureau shall cause a complaint to be signed by the complainant and a warrant issued for the arrest of such person and his appearance in court. Failure to appear as required by the terms of a citation issued to any person under the terms of this chapter shall constitute a violation of this chapter separate and distinct from the violation for which the citation was issued, and in addition to such violation. Failure to appear upon a citation shall subject the violator to a fine of not more than three hundred dollars or to a term of imprisonment in the city jail for not more than ninety days. (Prior code § 2-53).
