Welcome to the Clovis, New Mexico website!
Our City, which sprung up as a result of the east-west railroad, was
incorporated in 1909 in the heart of a newly developing farming and ranching
region in eastern New Mexico. Today, Clovis stands at the gateway to the
Land of Enchantment, serving as a strategic location for business and
industry to New Mexico and west Texas, and as a hub for a trade area encompassing
100,000 plus people.
Sites of interest near our city include Blackwater Draw, discovered in
1932 by Clovis native A.W. Andersen. This site is internationally recognized
for its "Clovis Points", evidencing that Clovis Man found this
area an ideal location in prehistoric times. Within the city itself areas
of attraction include the Norman Petty Studios on 7th Street, renown world
wide as the place where Buddy Holly recorded his hit "Peggy Sue"
and many other hits. Roy Orbison also recorded along with Clovis' own
Fireballs whose smash hit "Sugar Shack", reached number one
in 1963. The city is also extremely proud of the Hillcrest Park Zoo, the
second largest zoo in New Mexico.
Clovis serves as home to Cannon Air Force Base "Americas Go To Wing"
and a great relationship with the Air Force has developed over the years.
Clovis' Committee of Fifty work hard to retain Cannon in the Clovis area
and to foster the relationship between the two adjacent communities.
Clovis is home to the Wildcats and is known as the "Home of Champions".
Our city employees motto is "Serving Our Community" who work
hard to keep Clovis a great place to live and work. So next time you want
to visit a great community with a low tax rate, low crime rate, and great
people that will greet you with a smile, Clovis is your place to visit
or perhaps to live.
