WATER POLICY ADVISORY COMMITTEE RECEIVES WATER REPORT/SOLUTIONS

August 8, 2017 @ 7:24 pm
posted by Paul Nelson

The City of Clovis Water Policy Advisory Committee met August 8th and received a Lifetime projections for the High Plains Aquifer in east-central New Mexico report from the N.M. Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources. The report, which was funded through a collaborative effort between the City of Clovis, Curry County and the Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority, used well information and water-level data provided by the USGS New Mexico Water Science Center to project the lifetime of the aquifer in areas of Curry and Roosevelt counties.

The committee also received a presentation from the City of Clovis Water Policy Advisory Committee’s Task Force, spearheaded by Clovis Commissioner Ladona Clayton. The task force has spent several months compiling a Master Water Assurance Plan for the City of Clovis.  Commissioner Clayton advised the task force had completed a comprehensive overview of previous studies and had compiled some innovative solutions to address the short term and intermediate needs of the Clovis community while the Ute pipeline is being constructed.

“I would like to thank New Mexico Tech, Dr. Rawlings and his colleagues, for compiling the Lifetime projects for the High Plains Aquifer,” advised Water Policy Advisory Committee Chairman and Commissioner Chris Bryant, Tuesday. “This work, together with the task force’s plan, helps us better understand the challenges and solutions in addressing our area’s water needs in the coming years.”

The Lifetime projections for the High Plains Aquifer in east-central New Mexico report, and City of Clovis Master Water Assurance Plan, are available on the City of Clovis’ website at www.cityofclovis.org.
