CITY OF CLOVIS/GUTHALS NURSERY PARTNERING FOR 2019 ARBOR DAY TREE PLANTING CELEBRATION

CITY OF CLOVIS/GUTHALS NURSERY PARTNERING FOR 2019 ARBOR DAY TREE PLANTING CELEBRATION

In 1872, J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees. The first Arbor Day was celebrated on April 10, 1872 when more than a million trees were planted in Nebraska.  Since then, Arbor Day has become a special day set aside throughout the world to raise awareness of trees and the important role they play in our environment.

This year, the City of Clovis & Guthals Nursery are partnering in support of the 2019 National Arbor Day activities with a tree planting scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2019 at Veterans’ Park in Clovis.

“I would like to thank Guthals Nursery for partnering with the City of Clovis this year, and donating a tree to plant at Veterans’ Park,” advised City Commissioner Fidel Madrid, who serves as Chairman of the City’s Parks, Recreation & Beautification Committee. “I would like to invite area residents to join us for the Arbor Day observation.”

“Trees are a vital part of our environment, helping with everything from clean air, to habitat for wildlife,” advised Charlton Guthals, owner of Guthals Nursery. “For many years Guthals has helped area residents with choosing the correct trees to support our environment on the High Plains.   We are happy to participate in Arbor Day to help raise awareness of the importance of trees, and their impact on our environment.”
